Alignment and strengthening change leadership within a business unit


Client: A business unit in the energy sector.
Period: May – December 2022.
Team: Management group of 7 members and 25 middle managers and specialists.

Challenge

The business unit faced internal challenges caused by rapid hypergrowth. The management team needed to unify their understanding of problems and opportunities to speak with one voice, while also fostering engagement and clarity among middle managers and staff. The goal was to create alignment on the overall direction for the entire leadership function—at all levels within the business unit. Additionally, there was a need to enhance practical change management and communication capabilities to effectively address internal challenges, motivate staff, and close knowledge gaps through clear and inspiring initiatives.

The solution

We were engaged to facilitate the process with a focus on:

  • Analysis and alignment:
    Through workshops and interviews with both management and staff, we identified core challenges and opportunities. The findings were presented to the management team alongside an activity plan to structure the work moving forward.
  • Training in change leadership:
    A series of leadership days and workshops were conducted with both the management team and middle managers. These sessions focused on practical tools for change management, communication, and motivational strategies. The training also included planning actionable activities to drive localised change.
  • Follow-up and adaptation:
    Leadership days were used to track progress on activity plans and explore themes such as change theory, performance support, and customer insights in greater depth.
